F.A.Qs

location

We are on Koh Rong island (open from 8 am to 6 pm every day), not Koh Rong Samloem. In Koh Touch village (spelling varies) there are 3 piers / jetties where the boats arrive. You will see many 'long-tail' fishing and taxi boats. This is where the ferries arrive from mainland Sihanoukville. The middle pier / jetty is opposite CoCo's resort and bar / restaurant. Our center is about half way along the middle pier in a bright yellow building clearly marked Koh Rong Dive Center. We are in easy walking distance of many resorts in the area but once you start looking at Long Beach / Soksan area or Long Set / 4K Beach, Coconut beach or further it can be a long walk or taxi boat that you will need to arrange and they can be expensive.

To ensure a relaxing time we strongly advise staying on the island within easy walking distance, certainly the day before diving. This gives you time to check in the day before and enjoy a relaxing breakfast and coffee in the morning before you dive.

not on Koh Rong

Ok, not staying on Koh Rong? It is still possible to dive with us but you will need to arrange transport to the Island. From the mainland, in Sihanoukville this is fairly easy, with a number of ferry companies running scheduled services to and from Koh Rong Island but you must be here by 10am latest. The most popular is Speedferry Cambodia which arrives next to our dive center. Be sure to tell them Koh Rong and Koh Touch village and check departure and arrival times. Some ferries stop on another island (Koh Rong Samloem) and other areas on Koh Rong.

From Koh Rong Samloem this is a problem with no scheduled services that coincide with our diving schedule. You will probably need a taxi-boat which can be expensive, take a long time and depend on the weather.

The best solution is to stay on Koh Rong, near Koh Touch village, at least the night before

schedule

Ideally you should be staying on the island at least 1 night before your diving, within easy reach of the dive center. You should also have arranged with your resort or independently, your transfers.

Courses need to be at our dive center by 8-45 am, all other activities by 9-15 am. Our boats leave around 10 am and return around 3-30 pm (sometimes earlier). We stop at one site, then lunch, then another site and then return to our center in Koh Touch village. We can not pick up from or drop off to other locations.

We have a number of diving and snorkeling sites to the west of our island, on Koh Koun island, Koh Rong Samloem island and a small island called "Small Island". For more details on dive sites please go to Dive Sites.

dive Sites

We have 3 dive sites to the west of Koh Rong Island - Long Beach, Khmer Garden and Buddha Reef. Then there are 2 dive sites on and near "Small Island" called Small Island and The Rock. Lastly but most frequently visited we have 6 dive sites around Koh Koun island and Koh Rong Samloem Island, near M'Pai Bay. These are Corral, Last Tree, Corner Bar, Back Door, Kerley Gardens and Monkey Cave. We also have 2 other sites suitable for courses and Try Dives - M'Pai Bay and Shipwreck Beach. All these sites are within a 45 minute to 1 hour boat trip

Dive sites are not usually decided in advance or on a rota, since we decide in the morning based on weather and other factors. However, if you are doing more than one day diving we will try to give you a variety of sites when possible.

We sometimes also do trips to the "Far Islands" but these must be arranged in advance and we need a minimum of 6 guests. There is a $50 USD per person supplement for Far Island trips.

For detailed information on each dive site please visit our Dive Sites section.

friends and family

If you have a friend, family or others in your group doing different activities, we can usually arrange for you all to be on the same boat. It is possible for qualified divers to join others doing Try Dives (DSDs), Refreshers or courses on one or more of their dives but this usually means the qualified diver may be restricted on sites, depth or time - and you may spend some time watching them do skills. It is also dependent on numbers as we usually have a maximum of 4 guests per group.

how many

Our large dive boat can comfortably accommodate 24 people but we currently have 2 dive boats, so we would normally use 2 boats to keep the numbers down. We usually only have a maximum of 4 guests to one guide or instructor.

sd or owd

The Scuba Diver (SD) Course is a subset of the Open Water Diver (OWD) Course. For the SD you do 3 theory sections, 3 confined water sessions and 2 open water dives. There is no final exam and no 200 meter swim test but you do need to a 10 minute swim / float. The OW has 5 theory sections, 5 confined water sessions and 4 open water dives, there is a final exam and you have to be able to swim 200 meters as well as the 10 minute float / swim. As a SD you are qualified to dive up to 12 meters deep, whereas the OW is up to 18 meters deep. As SD you must always dive under the supervision of a diving professional. Depending on local law, as OW you can dive independently with a qualified buddy.

You can upgrade from SD to OW at any time and both certifications are for life. However if you certify first as SD then upgrade to OW you will have paid 2 certification fees. To upgrade you will do the additional theory sessions, confined sessions, 200 meter swim and 2 more open water dives plus the final exam. You will also be asked to do a quiz to review what you have remembered and some practical assessments.

With our dive center if you complete the SD and decide to continue directly on to OW certification instead, we just charge you the difference in price.
